Why there exists competition, why not only cooperation among us.?

The world is full of ambitions , competition is among man kind and selfishness is ever increasing. Why not there should be only give and take. Is it because of too much awareness among us ? What are we achieving finally. Today's new things are redundant and obsolete for tomorrow's world.
