Why does Hester Prynne not escape the persecution and move away from Boston?

Women had no rights, no property, no income, no support, no transportation...nothing. Personally, I'm amazed they even had a will to live. They were just a step above livestock. Where would she go...it's not like there was another city a few miles away. How would she get there? How would she get food? How would she fight off predators (human and animal). Everyone knew everyone in their community. If she was actually able to find her way to another community, they would never accept her because she was a stranger. Eventually, she would be found out and the harment would be worse. Women belonged to their father's until marriage. Once married, they belonged to their husbands til death. There was no in-between. No living with someone. No divorce. It's like Iraq and Afganistan today.
