I used to be confused on this subject as well. If you are speaking about God in a Christian sense then yes there are quite a few contradictions to the way he is described. But if you are speaking of a God or deity in general, I would point to the big bang, if there is no God who created the original m that exploded to create the universe. It seems logical from where I stand that there is a God. If it helps you think of God as knowing all, creating all, but not caring about what happens after he/she creates.
